The DB Administrator is handling physical and applicative database administration activities supporting end 2 end life cycle of a product from a database perspective.

What will your job look like?

  • You will ensure that database resources are sized properly and a design strategy is developed to make sure that the database is maintained at a healthy size.
  • You will ensure the availability and performance of multi-database and application environments with very large volumes and sizes.
  • You will initially support Application-level DB related tasks – you will handle all application-related issues (e.g. queries, users, embedded SQL’s etc.). You will grow into more complex Physical DBA activities– you will be responsible for the physical and technical oriented aspects e.g. storage, security, networking and more;
  • You will perform routine DBA tasks like database maintenance, monitoring, backups, recovery, table space management, upgrades, etc.
  • You will execute periodic health checks for databases and recommend changes that should be executed in the production environment to ensure optimal performance.
  • You will interact and work with multiple infra and IT teams as part of environment setup, maintenance and support.
  • You will work closely with developers and assist them with database structure design according to business needs (e.g. indexes, constraints, integrity).
  • You will have the ability to work with Linux/Unix and Windows-based OS Environment, on data-centre grade servers.
  • Automation of day to day tasks through shell Scripting.
  • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
  • Create automation for repeating database tasks.
  • Develop processes for optimizing database activities.

All you need is…

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree in either Computer Science/Programming, IT, etc.
  • Passion about technology and industry-standard tools for development lifecycle.
  • Good communication and mindset of teamwork.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Linux Operating Systems knowledge is a great advantage.
  • Solid knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
  • It would be great to see at least 1 year of experience as a DBA, preferably in a large environment.
  • Any experience with database management and architecture, RAC and ASM is a plus.
  • Any experience with other DB technologies like Hadoop, PostgreSQL, Mongo, Couchbase will be of great advantage.
  • Experience in working with large scale projects and databases are also a big advantage.
  • Unix Shell Scripting would be an added advantage.
